Update on our response to COVID-19 - 3.17.2020

Greetings Bethel family,

                Our community, our nation, and our World are in the middle of a crisis that impacts all of us. In response our leaders met tonight to prayerfully discern how best to Love God, Love Others, and Make Disciples in the middle of this present crisis. We agreed on a few ways we will plan on moving forward in this new reality.

Let me start with the difficult one. From now until after Easter we will be suspending all in-person worship services, events, gatherings, and small groups. This is a choice that I have never imagined making but in light of seriousness of this illness, the recommendation of elected leaders on a State, National, and Local level, and Jesus’ own call to love our neighbors as ourselves it was a necessary one. Our leaders will continue paying close attention to the recommendation of Local, State, and National leaders when it comes to when we will resume in-person gatherings. I believe the church has a huge opportunity to be found faithful during this time and be a witness to what it means to Love God and Love Others as disciples together.

                A pastor friend of mine was right on when he said the key for being disciples in this new reality is to remain CONNECTED in the midst of a CRISIS. Connected to God and connected to one-another. I am excited to announce three new ministries that will help us do that together because the church isnt a building, it’s a people and here are some ways we are going to be the church in these next weeks.

Bethel Online - Every week at 10am we will gather on our Facebook page (facebook.com/bethelcovenantchurch) for online worship. There will be more connection, encouragement, and opportunities to come this way in the coming weeks.

Bethel Connect - We are starting a new ministry of connection using some old technology. Our hope is to CALL as many people as possible from our church weekly (starting with our most vulnerable) to connect with, update with necessary announcements, and offer prayer.

Bethel Cares - We are launching a ministry to help meet people needs as they come up in the middle of this crisis.


Tomorrow I will update you a little bit on these three ministries and the help we need from you, what you can do to be the church alongside us these next three weeks. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for more info. 

Sheldon Johnson our chair of Outreach reminded us that it is in times like these, when plans change, or unexpected limitations come that God works in ways we can’t possibly imagine.  I can’t wait to see the work God does in us, even during this challenging time.

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
